Katie Mitchell
A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor Degree in Forensic Science, Katie works as a Death Investigator in the office of the Richmond, VA Chief Medical Examiner.
The winner of several scholastic honors, awards and scholarships, Katie is up for a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, to be presented at the Miss Virginia 2015 pageant in June.
Here is how she describes her passion for community service:
"My passion for helping others has stemmed from my own personal struggle and learning that all our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.
As an active volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club, Project Discovery, ACCESS College Foundation, and Virginia's Public School Systems, I have successfully helped many overcome self-doubt, set positive goals, excel academically, and work toward achieving their dreams.
Being involved in the Miss America Organization has afforded me countless opportunities to mentor and empower young people as well as create my own Non-Profit Organization, Teens Without 2, in which I provide teens being raised in single parent households college scholarships. I not only dedicate a year to my platform, but a lifetime. I look forward to celebrating with my Miss Virginia sisters as we are recognized for our commitment to making a difference in the lives of others! "
